Cassian

Tucked away in the deep recesses of Sydney's suburban jungle is one of disco's best kept secrets: a young and wildly fresh zulu synth-warrior known as Cassian.

After leaving devastation in his wake with his remixes of Empire of the Sun, Bag Raiders, Damn Arms, Classixx, and Miami Horror, and adding insult to injury with a beautifully crafted and much blogged minimix on the Bang Gang podcast, Cassian turned his attention to production. The result of this introspection appeared earlier this year, with the release of his debut EP "Friday Night" on Australia's premier nudisco label Bang Gang 12".

The flagship track "Friday Night" is a punchy little ditty, complete with wah-wah guitar melodies, disco vocals, and stabbing you with those trademarked Cassian chords. To contrast this, "Final Round" is a summery robotic funk track with some hefty kickdrums, digitally distorted basslines, all diffused nicely with myriad filters. The final track on the EP is "Fuck Song" and true to it's name this track is a jazzy number; with a pleasant mélange of funky piano, strat riffs, filtered funk chords, trumpet stabs, crooning vibrato solos all coated in a smooth deep synth bassline.

More recently, Cassian entered Two Door Cinema Club's remix competition, much to the chagrin of all other entrants; because if they know Cassian, they know they just lost. Listen to the outcome above! It's not yet clear if Cassian will win this competition, but it is ABUNDANTLY clear that he should!

Be sure to keep your ear to the ground for much more from this tribal disco champion.
